Candidates express fear as UTME JAMB Examination holds Saturday 18th July

The much awaited Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME ) organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)will be held nationwide Saturday, with candidates unsure of the surprise they will face at their various examination centres.

In preparation towards the exam, candidates have started visiting their venues, apparently to avoid missing their ways on the D-day.
There are however fears that the time for the examination may extend beyond the stipulated time, owing to series of verifications ranging from ascertaining whether those in the exam halls actually filled the forms.
JAMB, introduced a new process for 2011 UTME registration,which requires a biometric scanner, that will capture the left and right thumbs of candidates. This method is aimed at checkmating incidents of impersonation during exam.
Unfortunately, the new method posed some difficulties for students. First was the unavailability of a finger print reader on most commercial computers, thereby causing candidates to pay extra for such service, before signing up for a UTME account.
Another difficulty faced was the introduction of new requirement for registering for JAMB UTME 2011, which required that the computer used for registration must have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed. This as explained by JAMB was because the application that runs the Jamb UTME 2011 registration portal is based on Java programming language.
Some of the candidates who spoke with education vanguard express fears that the verification process could hinder them from having adequate time to finish their exams, pointing out that could also hamper their chances of meeting up to the cut- off points into any of the universities of their choice
